Yep I can believe it we're 60 alright.
By Jim Peterson on 10/7/2007
Last Week my daughter Robin ,who is now 36 came for a visit. A good time was had by all, including my son Matt (now living in Atlanta) taking us for a sail on his new 32' Islander sailboat.

During Robin's visit she had occasion to ask me if she could use my computer to access her email. I showed her a couple of the initial steps and she commented "Dad I don't no how you live like this", referring to my dial up internet connection.

Just this evening Karen asked me if I would get the sheets out of the dryer and while I was doing that it triggered a thought that seems appropriate to the topic.

It occurred to me that my daughter sees things as they are today with no memory of such as what it was like not to have a dryer, dishwasher or even a color tv.

Beginning life on a farm, heck, I can remember life with no running water, indoor pluming, telephone, or any kind of tv at all, let alone a broadband internet connection.

It's not that all these memories on tap make me feel older than I am, but reflecting upon them at times, does seem to add a sense of peace into the maddening pace of today's world.

Like all, I've many questions and opinions, about how the world we live in, came to be in the state it's in. I do firmly believe though, if I were to write down all of my memories it would take ya'll 60 years to read them.

All the ups ,downs, sideways, tragedies, successes, losses, etc have led me to here, setting on my butt, on a Sunday evening, typing this, as a happy person, realizing what a great time in history we were fortunate enough to grow up in and what a great place it was to do so.

Some memories do seem a bit vague though, so maybe some of you could help. Like what was/who:

The name of the small grocery that used to be wedged in between the theater and Doc Ingmires office?

Who owned the Dairy on Center street?

What was the milkman's name?

What was the name of the men's shop on the square?

What was the name of the cafe on Main st. just south of the Globe hotel that burned down?

Who was the supposed mafia guy oilman that came to town in the 60's?

Whatever happen to the civil air patrol tower just off Delaware street?

What was the name of the motel 2 miles north of Mt Gilead on 42?

What was the name of the lake next to it?

What was the name of our classmate who's parents once owned the ice plant?

Gotta thousand question's like these. Probably the surest proof that we're 60 is that I can't remember the answers. Appreciate the help if you can provide it.

hav gud day
