Just a few thoughts |

I saw the news of Mrs Knachel passing and my mind traveled back to 1982. I was doing a passage from St. Lucia BWI to St. Thomas Virgin Islands with three other people on a 37' sailboat and part of the routine is you divide the 24 hour day into four watches. 8 hours on, 16 hours off.
One particular night I was pulling the 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. watch just off Saba Island on a very dark night and in the middle of my watch I was finding it very difficult to stay awake. I let my mind wonder a bit and was just about ready to doze off when something popped into my head. Gerund!!!, Gerundive!!!! What the hell was that all about??? Both words started with the letter "G" so they must mean the same thing? Right!! After ruminating on that and other things concerning my classmates and Mt. Gilead, I made it through my watch.
I never had a chance to thank Mrs. Knachel for passing me. I'm sure in her mind I was one of those kids who had chewed on a lot of toys with lead based paint or had slipped out of the Doctor's hands during birth and landed on my head. She took pity on me and I am very grateful or I would still be at MGHS.
Teachers, policemen, firemen and our military men and women deserve our upmost respect and graditude.
THANK YOU!!!!! |
